You might have read this already, but this project is a perfect example of this quote:
"It's actually better to have no website at all than to have one that makes your business look bad. Your site speaks volumes about your business. It either says, "Hey, look, we take our business so seriously that we have created this wonderful site for our customers!" or it screams, "Hey, look, I let my 10-year-old nephew design my site. Good luck finding anything!"
Ring Ring... Ring Ring.....
"Hello, Modern Magic, Jeff speaking, how may I help you?"
"Yo, J-bone, it's Trent. How are you doing?"
"Great, just great. Living the dream"
Trent, "So Aaron says you designed his website. Can you take a look at mine and tell me what you think?"
"Sure, what's the URL?"
"U-R what?", Trent sounded confused.
"URL. Its your website address", explained Jeff.
"Oh. Well why didn't you say so? It's kingtapes.net", Trent said tentatively.
A few clicks later and I almost dropped the phone. (Yeah, "I" am Jeff) It looked like a template from the hosting company's famous Web Site Builder free application. It looked generic. It didn't even match the companies branding. Did I mention that 7 out of the 9 buttons just linked back to the home page?
"Ahhh, so..... Trent. Who put together this website? It looks unfinished."
"My brother is a web designer.... and a loser", Trent said while sighing.
"Well, sorry to hear that Trent, tell you what. Why don't you send me all your price lists, brochures, product and service info and I'll make a brand new website."
Modern Magic took all Trent's company info and graphics and produced a clean online catalog of all their services and products using the Joomla CMS. Trent can now log into his own site and edit prices on the fly. He loves it because the customers no longer call in confused about what KIng Tapes has to offer.
